As you may be aware, videos are gaining in popularity on the Internet. A lot of articles at the end of 2016 were about the “new 2017 trend”> Video Marketing, read here.

Why not try to make your own video to promote your book?

Here are a few tips if you are thinking about creating a video for your book.

1 – Write a short draft of your video (if you don`t use a template), with ideas, titles etc…You`ll feel it`s useless but you`ll be saving time when entering the “creative” mood. Your video needs to show your name, book cover (title), where to buy it, and website or Social Media to connect with you.

2- Be different. Don`t use the same template as everyone else.
Don`t get me wrong, After Effects can be tough to use and you may need a template but try to customise it as much as you can.

3 – Your video needs to be short, very short.
You may use it on Twitter/Facebook and your website, so a 2min video is a maximum or people will get bored – and I`ll advise a 30sec video.

4-Use free for commercial use images and music.
Be aware of the copyrights on images you can use on the background of your video and the music. It needs to be Free for commercial use – for the music sometimes you`ll need to credit the artist.
Pixabay for images.
DigccMixter for music (there is more I think but I use this one).
Use a background and a music which suit to your book genre.

5- Don`t use a very loud music (some people may dislike it and you may loose views).

6- Upload it on Youtube and link to your website or upload it to your website (if you can).

7– If on Youtube, write a full description with links to your store or Amazon profile.

8- Watch it before releasing it – until you get bored, to see any fails.

What if…

If you don`t use After Effects, you can also create a video with Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, or even Photoshop (cheaper than getting After Effects). It`ll be less “professional” because you won`t be able to use a template, but it can be nice looking and effective.

If you don`t have the skills or the software, create a GIF.
GIF are very popular on Social Media and are always eyes catchy.
